A Macintosh running at least System 7 (might need later, not sure)
Sound Manager 3.0 or later (available from Apple's web site)
3MB of RAM and about 3 MB of hard drive space
No Sound?
You probably aren't running Sound Manager 3.0 or later. If you have at least System 7.5, you should already have Sound Manager 3.0 or later. For System 7.1 users, you will need to go to Apple's web site and download the latest Sound Manager. Goto http://www.info.apple.com/, and look under their Software Updates section. There should be some search capability and you should look for "Sound Manager".
Game instructions
The goal of Avalon 2029 is to complete as many missions as possible. There are 5 different kinds of missions and a bonus level. Below is a more detailed description of each.
The Missions:
Mission: Fill Kill Quota
Kill enemies until you completely fill your "Kills" meter. Harder to kill enemies move the meter faster.
Mission: Protect Escaping Hostages
Escaping hostages run from the left side of the screen to the right side. Don't let the little red guns at the bottom of the screen shoot them and be careful not to kill them yourself.
Mission: Survive While Timer is Running
Simple, just stay alive while the timer is running.
Mission: Kill Red Guys
Red guys randomly run around, kill them until your "Kills" meter is full
Mission: Destroy Enemy Base
Destroy the various parts of the base until the "Base" meter is full.
Bonus Level
Hit as many targets and collect as many goodies as you can until the timer runs out.
To play:
• Position your cross-hairs over the enemy and press the mouse button (or space bar) to shoot. Some enemies require more than one shot to kill. Beware of the floating guys that deflect your shots back at you!
• Shoot any goodies that appear. You can collect 5 different weapons, ammo for the weapons, health kits, points, invincibility, missiles, and several others.
• When in a tight situation, press the "Launch" button near your ship to launch enemy seeking missiles. Be careful because these will kill escaping hostages too!
• Use Tab or the number keys to switch weapons and watch your ammo for the weapons that use it.
Keyboard Shortcuts:
• Pause Game (escape key)
• Resume Game after Pause (Command-R)
• Switch to Next Weapon (Tab key)
• Switch to Specific Weapon (1,2,3,4, or 5 keys)
• Fire (space bar)
Why register?
Avalon 2029 has a $10 Shareware fee that can be paid either on-line or by using the registration application located in the same folder as the application. Registration does the following:
• Removes the "Please Register" guy that randomly comes out and kills you
• Removes the reminder dialog box that appears every time you load the game
• Makes future EOM game releases more likely because these games take a
significant amount of time and money to make
• Makes you eligible to be a beta-tester of future releases
If you actually play Avalon 2029 and like it, please support the concept of Shareware by registering.
How do I register?
All registrations are handled through Kagi, a business that specializes in processing Shareware registrations. You can register in one of two ways:
1)On-line at: http://order.kagi.com/?1Y
or for a secure session at: http://order.kagi.com/?1Y&S
2)Using the Register program located in the same folder as this ReadMe file.
The Register Application Explained
• Type your name, postal address, and e-mail address (or "none" if you don't have one) in the corresponding boxes at the top of the window.
Note: If you do not have an e-mail address, you must check the Postcard Receipt box (which automatically adds $1 to your charge) so that we can send you a postcard receipt with your registration code.
• Enter the number of copies that you would like to purchase at $10 each.
Note: If you feel that the program is worth more than the registration fee, you can add an optional bonus in the Bonus US$ box.
• Select your method of payment and fill in any requested data (credit card number, type of currency, etc.). Checks should be made payable to Kagi Shareware and must be in US dollars.
• Double check the program's calculation of your total cost at the bottom right of the window.
• Either Print, Copy, or Save your registration information
Print... will print a hard copy of the registration form so that you can mail it to Kagi Software with your payment to the address shown on the form.
Copy... will put a copy of the registration form in your clipboard for you to paste into an e-mail message to send to Kagi Software. This method only works with credit cards and First Virtual since it is not yet possible to email cash or checks.
Save... will save a copy of the registration form onto your hard drive as a Simple Text document so that you can print it later.
• Double check your registration request to see that all the information is correct, if not, correct it using the Register program. Do not edit the output produced by the Register program. The Kagi email and postal mail addresses are given on the registration form. Save a copy for yourself. We suggest printing it out. Note the author's e-mail address.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgment when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgment.
Final Note:
Avalon 2029 has a protection scheme and when you pay, we need to send you a registration code.
If you do not have an email address, enter your complete postal address and please remember, we do not know what country you live in so please enter that into the postal address also. Check the Postcard Receipt box so that Kagi can inform you of your registration code. Kagi transmits the registration codes via email and paid postcard receipt only.
Known bugs
Since the cross hairs can be moved off of the game screen, sometimes it's easy to look track of where the cursor is.
